POEMS BROUGHT BY THE WIND

POEMS by TERENZIO FORMENTI

Terenzio Formenti was born in Bagolino on the 26th of March 1923.
In 1945 he graduated in Chemistry and worked in that field until 1972, when he founded the " Single, Couple, Groups Centre ", for which he is presently still working as a psychologist and psychodramatist.
Because of his profession and as a person who recognizes the importance of dreams, images, nature, life, it was during a seminary on corporeal and emotional communication that he gave life to his first poetical expression as a presentation of himself, namely " I am the rainbow of the night ".
In 1986 he published his first collection of poems "Poems born in the Summer" followed in 1987 by "Poems brought by the wind", in 1988 by "Kites", in 1989 by "Poems in the wind" and in 1990 by "Love and poetry".

" I am the rainbow of the night , born from darkness in this night of magic you will ask me what my colours are-Close your eyes and you will see them".

TRANSLATION

Tony Walsh - Born in Ireland in 1962 he moved to Italy in 1988 following a four year period in London. He now resides in Italy where he follows the dual path of Teacher of English and songwriter.
Given the close affinity between lyrical and poetical expression, it is hoped that something of the irish love of storytelling has managed to colour the words of Terenzio Formenti so as not to lose anything of their original beauty in translation.

INTRODUCTION TO THE AUTHOR

I AM THE RAINBOW OF THE NIGHT

i am the rainbow of the night

born from darkness on this magical night

you shall ask me what my colours are

close your eyes and you shall see them

i am the cry of a baby in the night

the light in the eyes of two lovers seeking one another in the dark

the sighs the whispers the kisses of a lover's meeting

a firework which is born and then dies in darkness

by a lakeshore on a night of festivity

i am the eyes of a tiger in love that roars in the jungle

the lights of Broadway and of Chinatown

the eyes of a cat that mewls at the stars

from the roof of a mountain hut

a scythe of moon which cuts the rye in a mountain meadow

the eyes of a fox that this night has decided not to kill

the eyes of a hare which reassured browses on the grass in a

tender meadow

the burst of light of a firefly that searches for its mate among the

bushes

i am the ghosts and the good elves that make up the dreams of the

night

a gnome that plays hide and seek with his shadow

the serenade of a cricket of the hearth

a will-r-the wisp that lights the fears of a wayfarer

a grandfather's tales narrated in the light of burning embers

a small but phosphorescent fish that lights the depths of the

ocean

a volcano that spurts into the sky his outbursts of joy

the weeping of stars on St. Lawrence's night

i am a little man

but i am also the rainbow of this magical night

  a fragment of the infinite

14th August 1986

An impromptu presentation of the author during a theatrical

evening in the cloister of the Rosano estate (Alessandria).

SHADOWS CREATED BY AUTUMN'S WIND

a tree

is losing

its mantle

the fallen leaves

lie

yellow

at its feet

the wind

has created

its shadow

of light

THE SHEER CLIFFACE ONTO THE SEA

the white wings of seagulls

  touched by the sun

  drawn upon the sea

the white wings of seagulls

  dulled by the shade

  standing out in the sky

broom

  clinging to the rocks

heather

	stretching

		to lap

			the waves

pine-trees

spellbound

in the sun

THE CORMORANT OF CALA RATJADA

philosophical cormorant

          clumsy cormorant

          perched on the reef

we have talked to each other

amidst the silence of the sea

your fear

  of an impending danger

my fear

  of finite enchantment

your dive

  has broken off my dialogue

of you has remained

  a graceful neck

    which cleaves the waves apart

and a memory

  in my soul

THE INFINITE

immense dunes

as far as the eye can see

of sand coral sand

the sun

at sunset

ignites them

with dreamlike colours

a little

big

black beetle

scuttles

along the slope

a web

of tangled footprints

follows it

out of sight

a shadow

long

magical

enormous

precedes it

and loses itself

in the sunset

perhaps

even this

is the infinite

VAGABOND

rain and wind

in the eyes

sun

in the soul

i wander the world

looking for myself

the other

smiles at me

from street corners

"gonna make me a home
out in the wind"

                                       Bob Dylan

i'll build myself

a home in the wind

i will play

with the clouds

i will perch

on the old baobab

i'll mingle

with the sand of the desert

i'll whistle

loves songs

among the rocks

and finally tired

lying upon the waves

i'll let myself be rocked

sweetly

"i'll have news of you
if i break into the sun"

          		Paul Eluard

i'll have news of you

if i break into the sun

in the magma of volcanos

i'll gather your colours

i'll search for you

in the unfathomable depths

in the murmuring of the wind

i'll listen to you

resting on the moon

we'll speak to each other

we'll cradle each other

in the eye of the hurricane

because

in the world of my dreams

i met you

"the bird was mingled
with the wind "

                              Paul Eluard

i am the wind

that bends the bushes

on a mountain ridge

i am a wild gust of wind

that lets loose its ragebreaks out

on the ripe ears of wheat

i am the breeze

that caresses

blades of tender grass

i am the breath of a child

on the first tremulous flame

i know the colours and the beats

  of all the feathers
